A long time ago, an Italian man was driving 100 miles an hour (about 160 kilometers an hour) on a California highway. The police stopped him, but he didn’t speak any English. When they found a translator, the driver told them that he saw the sign for Route 101. He thought it was the speed limit! Last Monday, a 67-year-old Canadian man was caught driving even faster. He told the police that he just wanted to dry off his car after washing it. The police didn’t believe him. They took away his license and made him pay $800. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
