2021年8月10日「モバイル英語学習」第706号 (英語のエッセイ): What’s Next?

**************************************************
Some people think that holding the Olympics in Tokyo during the pandemic was a mistake. Because of the Olympics, many people got together, and there were more and more cases of Covid-19. Other people think that holding the Olympics was a good idea. The athletes gave hope to people who were tired and wanted to think about something besides the pandemic. For two weeks, all the news in Japan was about Covid-19 or the Olympics. Now the games are over, so what’s next? There will be a two-week break, and then the Paralympics start on Aug. 24. 2019年10月21日「モバイル英語学習」第636(英語のエッセイ): Could Japan Do It Again?

Notes
quarterfinal 準々決勝試合;
———————–
Japan surprised everyone when it beat South Africa at the 2015 Rugby World Cup. But Japan lost to Scotland that year and didn’t go on to the quarterfinals. This year, things were different. Japan won all 4 games, including its game against Scotland. It played South Africa in the quarterfinals last night. In the first half, South Africa scored a try, and Japan got a penalty kick. The score was 5-3. South Africa was winning, but only by 2 points. Could Japan beat South Africa again? It looked possible until the middle of the second half. Then South Africa showed how strong it was and won 26-3. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
