Notes
parasol (婦人用)日傘、パラソル;
salty candy 塩飴;
garlic にんにく

—————————-
The rainy season is officially over. Now it’s time for the hot Japanese summer. I asked some adult students for ideas on how to beat the heat. Here are our suggestions:
1) use a parasol when you are outside,
2) wear light clothing,
3) use an electric fan or an air conditioner when you are inside,
4) drink lots of water and eat salt candy before exercising,
5) go swimming,
6) eat garlic after exercising to help your body recover from tiredness,
6) go and watch fireworks, and
7) eat shaved ice.
Which do you do? Do you have any other suggestions?

2019年7月17日「モバイル英語学習」第611号(英語のエッセイ): A Thunderstorm

Note
thunderstorm 雷を伴ったあらし;

———————————-
I was asleep at 3 a.m. Suddenly, there was a loud noise, and my apartment building shook. I thought it was an earthquake at first. Then I realized that it was a thunderstorm. The thunder went on for another 15 minutes. Each time I saw a flash of lightning, I started to count. If you count to 3, the lightning is about one kilometer away. I counted to 10. That means that the lightning was about 3 kilometers away. Sometimes I saw a flash and heard the thunder right away. The lightning was just above me! Finally, the thunder stopped, and it started to rain heavily. I went back to sleep. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
