How can you tell when it’s spring? First of all, it gets warm. Yesterday, the temperature was only 13 degrees in Nagoya, but the low temperature was over 8 degrees, so it felt much warmer than usual. Secondly, flowers start to bloom. The plum blossoms are over, and you can see the big, white magnolia flowers on trees around the city now. Finally, it’s time for graduation. Several days ago, the fourth-year students at my university dressed up in colorful kimonos and beautiful hairdos to attend their ceremony. It’s hard to say goodbye after teaching them for four years. There is a man in Nepal who can talk to birds. When he calls like a crow, hundreds of these black birds come. They listen to him when he tells them to be quiet, and they go away when he tells them to leave. He can imitate the calls of more than 200 birds. People call him “bird brother.” He goes to schools and talks about nature and birds. There are more than 800 types of birds in Nepal, and many of them are in danger. He wants to save them.(by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
