On December 1, Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Facebook, put the following message on his own Facebook: “Priscilla and I are so happy to welcome our daughter Max into this world!” With the birth of their first child, he and his wife have decided to change the world. He wrote, “We will give 99% of our Facebook shares — currently about $45 billion — during our lives to join many others in improving this world for the next generation.” I’m glad that people with so much money want to help other people, and I hope that the Zuckerbergs can change the world for the better.　(by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

I was sad to hear about Takakura Ken’s death. He was one of the great actors of the Japanese screen. Actually, he didn’t plan to be a movie actor. Someone from the Toei movie studio found him and put him in a movie. He started out in “yakuza” movies, and he became known as the Clint Eastwood of Japan. In his later movies he played many parts. I remember seeing him as a policeman in “Black Rain” and as the manager of the Chunichi Dragons in the comedy, “Mr. Baseball.” He made more than 200 movies in his lifetime. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
