Guinness record ギネス世界記録

—————————
Ethiopia, a country in East Africa, has a problem. It is losing trees every year. The main reason is that there are more and more people living in the country. Ethiopia has the second largest population of any country in Africa. As the population grows, people cut down more trees for farming, and they use the wood for cooking and heating. This causes many environmental problems, so the government is trying to change things. On July 30, they closed public offices, and people all over Ethiopia planted 350 million seedlings in one day. What a great Guinness record! (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

2019年7月30日「モバイル英語学習」第614号(英語のエッセイ): How to Beat the Heat!

Notes
parasol (婦人用)日傘、パラソル;
salty candy 塩飴;
garlic にんにく

—————————-
The rainy season is officially over. Now it’s time for the hot Japanese summer. I asked some adult students for ideas on how to beat the heat. Here are our suggestions:
1) use a parasol when you are outside,
2) wear light clothing,
3) use an electric fan or an air conditioner when you are inside,
4) drink lots of water and eat salt candy before exercising,
5) go swimming,
6) eat garlic after exercising to help your body recover from tiredness,
6) go and watch fireworks, and
7) eat shaved ice.
Which do you do? Do you have any other suggestions?
