In a small town in the north of the United States, the birds have started acting strangely. This year, it got cold early in Minnesota. There was an early frost, and the berries on the trees started to ferment. The sugar in the berries turned to alcohol. Many birds eat these berries before they fly south for the winter. What happens to them? The alcohol makes them drunk. They can’t control themselves. Some birds fall out of trees and others fly into windows or cars. The police say that you shouldn’t worry if you see a drunk bird on the ground. It will wake up later and be fine. (by Douglas Jarrell)

My family was originally planning to move out from Hiroshima City to a neighboring city on Saturday, July 7, so that I could help on the weekend. However, we changed the day from Saturday because the moving company offered a 50% discount if we did it on Wednesday. That makes a big difference! On Friday, July 6, it rained heavily and the rivers overflowed. The roads were blocked by landslides. If we had kept to our original plan, not only would we have been unable to move out, but we would have also had to live without electricity or gas for a while. We had a narrow escape. (by a reader)
