People may not like very hot weather, but neither do mosquitoes. Osaka Prefecture wanted to find out more about these insects, so they set traps in about 15 different places. They counted the mosquitoes for 10 years. In 2004, the number of mosquitoes caught in each trap was over 30. By 2013, the number had gone down to about 20. Why did that happen? Maybe it was because the summers are getting hotter. Very hot weather dries up the wet places that mosquitoes need to lay eggs. The high temperatures may also kill the mosquitoes. Do you think there are fewer mosquitoes this year? (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
