My son went to the local fish processing factory for his junior high school work experience program. He wanted to work as a shop assistant, and he chose the place because the name was Nishiya Shoten. ‘Shoten’ is a retail store in Japanese. He thought he would sell something at the store, but it turned to be a fish factory. He had to process salmon and take out the roe. He worked so hard that he was given a large amount of salmon roe when he left the factory. It filled a middle-sized cooking pot. It was a tough day for him, but we were very lucky to eat lots of salmon and roe. (by a reader)

Notes
Tonga 南太平洋,Fiji の東の島群から成る王国

————————-
The Rugby World Cup was held at Sapporo Dome on Sep. 21 and 22. Australia played Fiji, and England played Tonga. A couple of festivals were going on in Odori Park, too. I saw many tourists from overseas in the city. One night, I happened to talk with a woman from England. She is a big fan of rugby, loves beer, has five grandchildren, and is travelling in Japan and China for 6 weeks by herself. We met again the next day for karaoke. She will fly on to Osaka and stay at Koya-san with some Buddhist monks for 3 days. The place doesn’t have alcohol, and that concerned her the most. (by a reader)
