2018年12月18日「モバイル英語学習」第584号(英語のエッセイ): Keep Warm with Electric Clothing

——————————-
How do people keep warm in winter? Many people wear coats, but coats can be inconvenient when you travel by car. You have to take them off when you get in and put them on again when you get out. That’s why many businessmen wear vests under their suit jackets. These days, there are thin vests that are very warm because they are made of down (duck feathers). There is also electric clothing for people who are active outdoors. I met someone who was wearing an electric top (like a thin sweater). It was powered with a battery. He really liked it because it kept him very warm. (by Douglas Jarrell)

Winter has finally arrived. After a long autumn with many warm days, the weather has suddenly turned cold. In fact, it is colder than usual. On Sunday, most parts of Japan had temperatures that didn’t go over 9 degrees, and the low temperature in Nagoya was 3 degrees. I had to travel 45 minutes by motor scooter, and I bundled up. I wore six layers of clothes including a down vest and a winter coat. Even with so many clothes, I started to feel cold inside by the end of the trip. Luckily I wasn’t riding my motor scooter in Sapporo. It was minus 4, and there was snow on the ground! (by Douglas Jarrell)
