My niece in Okinawa visited Sapporo with her two elementary school kids at the beginning of December. They stayed at my house, and we went out here and there. Everything was new to them: the snow, the subway, the dome, and trees without leaves. The kids were so excited, especially by the snow! They ate the snow and could hardly wait to make a snowman. After returning to Okinawa, my niece said, “I let them be absent from school for 5 days. It was a good experience for them, and now they voluntarily do their homework!” (by a reader from Sapporo, edited by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

2014年4月13日「モバイル英語学習」第240号(エッセイ ): The End of “Waratte Iitomo”

*******************
Did you know that Tamori’s TV show, “Waratte Iitomo!” has come to an end after 32 years? I only watched it a few times, but I always enjoyed it. Tamori has a great sense of humor. As you know, he always wears sunglasses on the show. Have you ever seen a picture of him without them? I don’t think anyone has. He even wore sunglasses when he appeared in a samurai movie!
