When I think of citrus fruit, I think of warm places. That’s because most of the oranges and grapefruit in the U.S. are grown in California, Florida, and Texas, and these states have warm climates. In Japan, however, citrus fruit is in season when it’s cold. Mandarin oranges are coming into season now. My wife bought mandarin oranges the other day, and then her sister gave us more from her husband’s hometown, Kumamoto. I was given some “sudachi” from someone I work with, and the next day, my wife got more from a friend of hers. My house is now full of citrus fruit! (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
