How far can you fly on a passenger plane? The new flight from Perth, Australia, to London, England, is one of the longest passenger flights in the world. It is also the first regular flight from Australia to Europe. Australia has a close relationship with Britain, and Qantas, the Australian airline, started flying the Kangaroo Route to London in 1947. At that time, it took four days and nine stops. Now, the direct 14,498 kilometer flight takes just 17 hours. This is possible because Qantas has a new jet, the Boeing 787. Get ready to watch a great performance in the sky. There will be a lunar eclipse tonight, and the moon will get dark for several hours. How does this happen? The earth moves between the sun and the moon, and the earth’s shadow falls on the moon. The moon loses its bright yellow color and becomes a dark red. Tonight the moon will start to change color after 8:50 p.m, and at 10:30 it will be at its darkest. It will get lighter again, and just after midnight the eclipse will be over.
