The city of New Delhi hosted the Commonwealth Games in October. This was the first time India had hosted the Games and only the second time the event had been held in Asia. The Commonwealth Games consists of 54 countries including (in alphabetical order) Australia; The Bahamas; Bangladesh; Barbados; Botswana; Malaysia; Maldives; New Zealand; Nigeria; Pakistan; United Kingdom; United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia. The Games are held, like the Olympics, every 4 years, and the last one took place in Melbourne. This year however the Games opened with a lot of controversy. Mainly, that they were not prepared – two days before the track events started they were still doing construction! Maybe it is a lesson for all of us: never leave things to the last minute!!
