Russia has the coldest temperatures in the world, but even the Russians are not used to the temperatures in the eastern part of the country. A small town on the border between Siberia and Northern China recorded a temperature of -62.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. This is the first time in 54 years that the temperature has dropped below -60 degrees there. Moscow, the Russian capital, is in the western part of the country, but even there the temperatures were low. Last Sunday, the temperature dropped to -23 degrees. It was so cold that they decided to close the new ice-skating rink in Red Square. (By Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
