asthma ぜんそく;
—————————-
Let me tell you why I want to be a doctor. My mother had asthma when I was a kindergarten child. She suffered from feelings of guilt because she could not do the housework and bring up me. She often cried, not because of her asthma, but because she was very sorry for my brother and me. She had such a strong sense of responsibility that she suffered mentally as well. Because I was very young and did not have much knowledge, I was very sad because I could not do anything for her. Even now, she still suffers from asthma and mental disease, and I still feel powerless to help her. That’s why I decided to become a doctor, to help patients such as my mother. To enter this medical university, I had to study a lot. But the feeling that I experienced when I was a young child encouraged me. I want to be a doctor who listens to patients and cheers up those who are deeply troubled. Of course, I know that doctors must have practical skills and knowledge of medical practice, but I think that the greatest pain of disease is mental. Therefore, I want to be able to put patients at their ease. (written by student Miss S, edited by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
