When gold was found in California in 1949, people all over the U.S. left their homes, their jobs, and even their families, and they went to California to look for gold. Everyone wanted to get rich. Actually, the people who got rich were usually the storekeepers. One of those storekeepers was Levi Strauss. Together with Jacob Davis, he made the first jeans. They designed working pants with metal studs at the pockets and patented them on May 20, 1873. Those were the first blue jeans. They had Strauss’s first name on them: Levi’s.
