2019年8月31日「モバイル英語学習」第622号(英語のエッセイ): I Miss Paper Maps!

Notes
niece 姪;

——————————-
These days everyone uses their cell phones to find out how to get to a place they don’t know. No one uses paper maps anymore. I don’t have WiFi service with my phone here in the U.S., so I usually download a map on my iPad. The other day I had to go to my niece’s house 20 kilometers away by 8 a.m. Unfortunately, I left my iPad behind. Then I got lost on the way. What did I do? I called my sister at work. Luckily, she was able to give me good directions, and I got to my niece’s house on time. Cell phones are convenient, but I miss paper maps! (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

2019年2月20日「モバイル英語学習」第592号(英語のエッセイ): Supermoon

—————————
Go outside tonight and look at the moon. It will look bigger and brighter than usual. Actually, we missed the biggest supermoon of 2019 by a day. It was last night, but we couldn’t see it in Nagoya because of the rain. What is a supermoon? It is when the moon is full and closest to the Earth. Supermoons can be up to 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than normal moons. There are three supermoons this year. One was last month, one is happening right now, and the next one will be in March. If you miss this one, try again on March 21. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
