The word “supermoon” is in the news in the US. Apparently the moon is very close to the Earth now, so it looks bigger and brighter than usual. People are posting pictures on the internet from places all over the world. The good news is that we have had clear nights since I arrived in New Hampshire (near Boston), and the moon certainly is beautiful. The bad news is that this is the best time of the year to see shooting stars (meteorite showers). When the moon is this bright, you can only see the meteorite showers in the early morning before sunrise. I don’t think I can get up that early. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

2014年6月10日「モバイル英語学習」第249号(エッセイ ): Does Your Cell Phone Understand You?

Notes:
voice recognition 音声認識;

Voice recognition software is amazing. I can talk to my cell phone and it types exactly what I say as long as I speak slowly. I have an American accent, but I wonder if it can understand people with accents from other countries. There is a funny video that shows how accents can be a problem. Two men from Scotland with strong Scottish accents get on an elevator with voice recognition software. They need to say the floor number, but the elevator doesn’t understand them when they say 11.
