The sounds of an alarm clock and footsteps coming from the next room made the brothers freeze. “Run!” cried Vincent, as all three boys dropped their surgery treasures and ran toward the open window as fast as their little legs could carry them.

Thump, thump, thump, thump.

The footsteps continued their slow pace toward the kitchen to where the boys were. Farmer John, an old but very large man, entered the kitchen and saw the open window that he had forgotten to close the night before. While walking over to close it, farmer John saw the three brothers. “You dirty little creatures!” Said farmer John, bending down towards the closest brother…
Squish!

The two remaining brothers ran as quickly as they could from old farmer John. But their legs were too short. Clint watched, horrified, as farmer John’s giant hand reached down toward Grant, the youngest brother.
Squish!

Although he was fast, even Clint couldn’t run away from farmer John’s giant hand. A dark shadow was the last thing the ant would ever see.
Squish!

“Are you sure he’s still sleeping?” Grant asked to his older brother, Clint. “Of course,” replied Clint, “he always wakes up after the sun rises.”

It was still early in the forest when the three young brothers, Grant, Clint, and Vincent, slowly and quietly approached old farmer John’s cabin. Climbing through an open window and crawling into the kitchen, the brothers quickly headed toward the cabinet to where farmer John kept his sweets.

“Jackpot!” they quietly said together as they opened the cabinet doors. Although they had stolen from farmer John before, today was their lucky day. Chocolate bars, fruit flavored suckers, sweet caramels, the brothers were amazed at the collection of candy. Quickly gathering as much as they could carry, the brothers began to make their escape.
