Honda Motor Company has created a scooter that can be operated without a handle. The mobility device allows the driver to control the speed and direction by shifting their weight. It can also be controlled with a smartphone if users cannot manoeuver with their body. The devices are due to be tested at two locations in Japan; in Tokyo and in Kyoto. If they are successful, the devices could be used for getting people with walking difficulties around public libraries or even airports. (by Prof. Simon Smith)

One of the biggest stories in English newspapers recently has been about growing meat.  Scientists believe that it could be possible to grow meat in a laboratory by 2020. One of the reasons for the interest in growing meat is that it is expected that meat consumption will double by 2050. This also means that the price will increase so that meat may become a luxury. Also animals need lots of water, which means less water for humans. Added to this, in the future water might be in short supply. Whether you like it or not, laboratory meat may be the only option for us. (by Prof. Simon Smith)
