When you think of winter fruit, what comes to mind? In Japan, one of my favorites is in season now. It’s the mandarin orange! I came home last night and saw a bowl full of mandarin oranges sitting on the dining room table. They are really the perfect fruit. They are easy to peel, and they usually don’t have any seeds. Each orange has about 10 segments which are neither too big nor too small for your mouth. I know that many Japanese only eat the inside of each segment, but that’s too much work for me. I eat them as they are, after I peel the orange, of course! (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

Note:

There were no musical instruments, bands or singers on the stage at the open-air event. In the spotlight, there was only a DJ with a headphone playing music. Over 40,000 people had their hands in the air and were dancing to the music. It was my first time at a huge electric dance music event called “Ultra Japan 2016” in Odaiba, Tokyo. When the electronic piano was first sold a long time ago, some professional musicians refused to play it because they thought they would lose their job. Now we are really in a new era of music. All you need for a concert is a DJ! (written by a reader, edited by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
