People in a small city in Ohio (in the middle of the U.S.) have a problem. A lot of wild turkeys came to the area a few weeks ago. They move around in groups of five or six. When they see someone walking on the sidewalk, they lower their heads and attack. One mail carrier cannot deliver the mail, so about 20 families have to go to the post office to pick it up. The city wants people to stop leaving bird food out, hoping that the hungry turkeys will go away. The mail carriers are also talking about delivering the mail in the evening when the turkeys aren’t around. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

New Year’s resolution 新年の決意

What did you do at the New Year? I took some children to Korea for four days to see the cranes that spend the winter there. We got up one morning to watch these big birds before sunrise. The temperature was -7 degrees. It was so cold that my hands hurt! Then I heard from my sister who lives near Boston that it went down to -20 degrees, and the water pipes in her house froze! Back in Japan, I made my New Year’s resolutions. I will keep a diary every day in Korean and take a Korean test in July. What are your New Year’s resolutions? ( by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
