Who talks more, men or women? Scientists did a study using American and Mexican college students and found that there wasn’t much difference. On average, both use about 16,000 words per day. The differences between each individual can be much bigger. For example, the most talkative men used more than 45,000 words per day while the least talkative used less than 500. I was looking for a Korean movie called “Marathon,” so I went to my local DVD rental store. I had a pleasant surprise. When I found it and took it up to the counter, I found out that they were having a special on old DVDs. They only charged me 70 yen for one week. I couldn’t believe how cheap it was! Unfortunately, I forgot to take the DVD back by the return date. I had to pay an extra 210 yen. In the end, it wasn’t so cheap after all. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
