Nishikori Kei surprised the tennis world. He beat the number 5 seed, the number 3 seed, and then the number 1 seed Djokovic in the U.S. Open, one of the four most important tennis tournaments. He went on to the finals and played Marin Cilic from Croatia. Although Nishikori lost to Cilic, he became the first Japanese man to reach the finals in a Grand Slam tournament. People were also impressed by his racket skills. In his game against Djokovic, he bounced his racket on the court and caught it behind his back without looking at it! (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

2014年8月28日「モバイル英語学習」第258号(エッセイ ): A New Cell Phone App

There is a new app called Snapchat that is very popular among young people in the U.S. It is like LINE, but instead of writing a message or making a phone call, most people use it to send photos. You can also send short videos. The interesting thing about this app is that your photo or video disappears after a few seconds. My nephew said that he uses the app to let friends know where he is, but he also uses it to take strange photos of himself. He likes to surprise people, but he doesn’t want them to keep the photos. He said that he has to look quickly or he may miss the photos he gets. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
