Have you ever looked at the Sunday newspaper and thought that there was less news than on the other days of the week? I sometimes feel that way. The headlines on the front page seem smaller, and the news seems less important. Maybe there are fewer news reporters working on the weekend. Or maybe people are thinking about religion and don’t do anything bad. After all, in Islam people go to the mosque on Fridays, Jewish people go to their temples on Saturday, and Christians go to church on Sunday. (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

My niece in Okinawa visited Sapporo with her two elementary school kids at the beginning of December. They stayed at my house, and we went out here and there. Everything was new to them: the snow, the subway, the dome, and trees without leaves. The kids were so excited, especially by the snow! They ate the snow and could hardly wait to make a snowman. After returning to Okinawa, my niece said, “I let them be absent from school for 5 days. It was a good experience for them, and now they voluntarily do their homework!” (by a reader from Sapporo, edited by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
