How can you tell when it’s spring? First of all, it gets warm. Yesterday, the temperature was only 13 degrees in Nagoya, but the low temperature was over 8 degrees, so it felt much warmer than usual. Secondly, flowers start to bloom. The plum blossoms are over, and you can see the big, white magnolia flowers on trees around the city now. Finally, it’s time for graduation. Several days ago, the fourth-year students at my university dressed up in colorful kimonos and beautiful hairdos to attend their ceremony. It’s hard to say goodbye after teaching them for four years. I went to “Sunlake” in the Hirata Area to talk with high school students. It was a communication project between high school students and university students. At the gathering, the high school students had a chance to think about their future, and we university students shared our experiences of high school life, talked about how to pass the entrance exam, and described the club activities that we have at the university. I asked the high school students to think about what they really want to be or want to do at university. It was difficult to advise them about their future, but it was a very good experience for me to reminisce about my dreams and to talk with them. I want to take part in this program again. I hope I can give them better advice next time!  (written by student Miss Iwata, edited by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
