Since the Fukushima Dai-Ichi was destroyed in the earthquake the Japanese government has asked for people to cut their energy consumption. In response to this many companies have demonstrated how it is possible to save energy with some very innovative ideas. One such company is the Tokyo-based construction firm Maeda, a Japanese company which has ordered all of its 2,700 employees to get identical hairstyles. The corporation asked men to have “short back-and-sides“ and for women have a “cute” bob with a longer fringe that can be swept to one side. Many people may ask how could this save energy? Before reading on please think of a reason.
According to the company, if people have short hair they won’t need to use their hair driers for long! The company also believes that their employees will use less water too. (by Prof. Simon Smith)

For people living in Australia the sun is a daily threat to health; causing skin cancer which kills thousands every year. However scientists in Australia say they are close to producing a pill that would protect us from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. A sunscreen pill could be available within five years. This is good news for sun-lovers as they would only need to take a pill once a week, instead of having to put on sunscreen on every few hours. A sunbather on Sydney’s Bondi Beach welcomed this news, saying: “Bring it on. No more sunscreen. No more sunburn. Now we can stay out in the sun all day long.” As with all great inventions however there are always negative effects. Some scientists have warned that the pill could be harmful as too much sun protection can lead to vitamin D deficiency, resulting in weak bones. (by Prof. Simon Smith)
