Three boys were rescued at sea after their boat drifted at sea for more than 50 days. This came as a happy surprise to all their family members who had thought them lost and dead at sea. The families had even had a memorial service to say goodbye. But the boys were eventually found alive by a tuna boat fishing crew. The boys were able to stay alive by eating a sea bird and by gathering water in a tarpaulin. This looks short compared to a much longer absence at sea in 2005 when three Mexican fishermen drifted across the Pacific Ocean for nine months. (by Prof. Simon Smith)

Today I read an interesting story that said digital cameras will be a thing of the past. Can you guess why? Because everyone is using their iPhones and cell phones, and they have cameras. Why carry a camera and a phone when you don’t have to? Another reason is that there are all kinds of applications on iPhones. You can make your photos look like a professional took them without much work. A third reason is that it is easier to share photos from an iPhone. The news story said that SLR cameras probably won’t disappear, though, because there are always people who want really high quality photos. Do you agree? (by Prof. Carmella Lieske)
