Get ready to watch a great performance in the sky. There will be a lunar eclipse tonight, and the moon will get dark for several hours. How does this happen? The earth moves between the sun and the moon, and the earth’s shadow falls on the moon. The moon loses its bright yellow color and becomes a dark red. Tonight the moon will start to change color after 8:50 p.m, and at 10:30 it will be at its darkest. It will get lighter again, and just after midnight the eclipse will be over. Do you know that people in Oymyakon, Siberia (the coldest village in the world), dry laundry in a unique way? They do it by freezing the laundry outside and then removing the ice from the clothes. In this way, the laundry dries in a moment. I live in Hirosaki, which is in the western part of Aomori. It is also cold, and the temperature sometimes goes down to minus 10 degrees. When I was walking to the university this morning, I realized that my runny nose froze. I thought that it might be worthwhile to try drying the laundry by freezing it in Hirosaki, too!
