I went to “Sunlake” in the Hirata Area to talk with high school students. It was a communication project between high school students and university students. At the gathering, the high school students had a chance to think about their future, and we university students shared our experiences of high school life, talked about how to pass the entrance exam, and described the club activities that we have at the university. I asked the high school students to think about what they really want to be or want to do at university. It was difficult to advise them about their future, but it was a very good experience for me to reminisce about my dreams and to talk with them. I want to take part in this program again. I hope I can give them better advice next time!  (written by student Miss Iwata, edited by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)

The Sochi Paralympics began on Saturday, March 8, and will go on to March 16. There are four sports categories: alpine skiing/snowboarding, biathlon/cross-country skiing, ice sledge hockey, and wheelchair curling, and in each category, there are a number of events. After the first two days, Russia is in first place followed by Ukraine. Japan is in third place with five medals. I watched Kano Akira’s gold medal performances in the men’s super-G and the men’s downhill sitting. As the newspaper said, he was blazingly fast! (by Prof. Douglas Jarrell)
